UNION MILLS - For the fourth time in franchise history, and the first since 2016, the New Carlisle Newts are the champions of the Old Republic Wiffle®Ball League (ORWBL).
New Carlisle defeated the Mill Pond Pink Pandas in five games to take the crown and cap the long wiffle season.
The Newts hosted the first three contests at Migley Field on Sunday, August 25. New Carlisle took advantage of the friendly confines, winning two out of three: 18-12, 16-21, 17-4.
With New Carlisle leading the series 2-1, the action shifted to Walter Metts Field in Union Mills on Sunday, September 1. The Newts offense took the crowd out of it early, as New Carlisle jumped out to large leads in each ballgame to win Games 4 and 5: 25-13 and 18-10.
Tyler Shupert was named World Series MVP for his stellar performance at the plate. Shupert went 22 for 38 with 15 home runs, 20 RBI, and 20 runs scored in the series.
It was the 10th World Series appearance for ORWBL's charter franchise, and the victory helped avenge a disappointing seven-game loss in the 2023 edition of the Series.
New Carlisle finishes the summer with a 43-22 overall record (tournaments included).
Wiffletown USA will celebrate the Newts title with a parade on Sunday, December 1 through downtown New Carlisle.
