Newts sweep again! 15 Straight!

NEW CARLISLE - Don't let anybody ever tell you the New Carlisle Newts don't try in the regular season!

Cy Young candidate Matt Soos gutted out another series on the mound to lead the Newts (18-3) to a three-game sweep of Union Mills on Sunday afternoon, 9-7, 11-7, 14-10.

Soos has pitched nearly the entirety of the Newts franchise-record 15-game winning streak, but hobbled off the mound with two out in the fifth inning of the finale.

Koby Keck recorded the four-out save - with Soos behind the plate making diving plays despite being gassed.

Tyler Shupert led the way offensively for the Newts, hitting .550 with six home runs and 10 RBI in the series. Brett Mason launched another eight long balls to bring his team-high total to 37 on the year.

New Carlisle sits alone atop the National League standings with an 18-3 record this season. That top spot will be up for grabs next weekend though, as the Newts will square off with the Granger Panthers on Sunday, July 5.
