Newts get much needed sweep

NEW CARLISLE - For at least Sunday afternoon, the New Carlisle Newts (5-7) got back on track. The Newts swept the winless Willow Creek Warpigs, 14-3, 11-4, 8-0.

New Carlisle's offensive attack - the first time all year it could be described in that manner - was led by Matt Soos and JP Kehoe. Soos hit .727 on the series, while Kehoe went nine for 14 with eight home runs.

Garrett Curless earned the victory on the mound for the Newts in the series opener. Curless was supported by two home runs each from Kehoe, Tyler Shupert, and Scott Soos. Matt Soos went a perfect five for five in the game with four home runs.

In the second contest, Kehoe took the bump for the first time in his Newts career. After allowing two solo shots in the top of the first, he scattered three hits the rest of the way.

Despite the early deficit, New Carlisle answered with six runs in the bottom of the first. After Matt Soos led off with a single, Kehoe quickly tied it with a two-run homer. Later in the inning, Soos knocked in a run with another single and Kehoe followed with a three-run bomb.

Kehoe would hit two more dingers in the game, driving in nine total runs for the game.

New Carlisle completed the sweep in the series finale. Koby Keck got the complete game shutout victory on the mound, allowing just two hits.

Kehoe again had a multi-homer game with two bombs, and Danny Hernandez added two of his own.

The Newts hope to continue the good vibes next weekend, as the defending ORWBL Champions South Bend Truffle Butter (10-2) come to Migley Field for a three-game set on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20pm ET.
