Newts drop two in rainy opener

MISHAWAKA - A week after the rest of the league, the New Carlisle Newts (1-2) opened their 2025 ORWBL slate with a soggy, sloppy series at the Twin Branch Billy Goats (5-1).

Twin Branch took the series: 2-4, 6-5 (F/8), 3-2. Both Goats' wins came via walk-off hits.

Garrett Curless led the way for the Newts, batting .500 on the series with four home runs. Curless also went 1-1 as the pitcher of record with two complete game efforts on the mound.

Rookie Brett Mason was impressive in his ORWBL debut, going four for nine at the dish in the first two games with three long balls.

New Carlisle will get another week off for Mother's Day before returning to action on Sunday, May 18. The Newts will host the Granger Panthers for Opening Day at Migley Field. First pitch is slated for 1:20pm ET.
