NEW CARLISLE - While New Carlisle transformed into the Wiffle® Kingdom in 2023, the magic ran out early for the hometown team. The New Carlisle Newts blew a six-run lead in the Sweet Sixteen and were eliminated on a walk-off home run by the CCW Skullcrushers.
It was the Newts' earliest exit at Hometown Days since 2013.
The team of Garrett Curless, Koby Keck, JP Kehoe, Joey Schuster, and Tyler Shupert turned in a solid 4-0 pool play effort on Saturday. However, the Newts landed in a very difficult Tent City bracket on Sunday that they could not escape.
Overall, The Wiffle®Ball Championship drew a record 90 teams and proved to be another spectacular weekend in New Carlisle.
