NEW CARLISLE - The New Carlisle Newts went on the road this weekend, picking up a sweep over the Cabo Yabos in Valparaiso on Saturday and taking two of three from division foe Olive Township on Sunday afternoon.
The 5-1 road trip was good enough to get the Newts back into first place in the National League East for the time being. New Carlisle (15-6) holds a slim 0.5 game lead over Olive Township (16-8).
The weekend was highlighted by the ORWBL debut of Ryan Galiher, who hit .591 with nine home runs in three games against Cabo. Galiher, who played with the Newts at The Wiffleball Championship in 2016, is a member of the Gashouse Gorillas of the Griffleball League in northwest Indiana.
Galiher also picked up the win on the mound in game three.
Corey Boyd also made his Newts ORWBL debut on Saturday. Boyd is no stranger to the league, as he has previous experience with the Cult West Warriors. Boyd added eight home runs of his own in the Yabos series.
The Newts look to improve upon their 8-1 road record next Sunday, as they travel to Old Rock Field to face the American League West leading Jet City Junkballers.
