LYNN STREET - With Noah Shail making his 2017 ORWBL debut, the New Carlisle Newts (5-1) swept the Lynn Street Leprechauns (0-6) on Sunday afternoon, 9-5, 9-1, 13-1.
After battling miserable hitting conditions in the first series of the year at home, the Newts lineup began to click today on the road. Even with the wind blowing in, New Carlisle managed 13 home runs in the three-game set.
Scott Soos led the way, going 15 for 21 in the series, including a perfect 7 for 7 in the finale. Soos belted seven home runs and drove in 14 runs. He also picked up the win on the mound in game three, allowing only one run in five innings of work.
Shail hit .667 on the day, with three home runs and eight RBIs. He homered from both sides of the plate. He too got some work in on the mound, notching his first career save in game three.
Danny Hernandez carried most of the weight for the Newts on the bump, picking up two complete game victories. Hernandez is now 3-0 on the season with a 2.10 ERA.
New Carlisle is back in action next Sunday when the Granger Panthers (6-0) visit MIgley, opening up a 9-game homestand for the Newts. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20pm ET.
