NEW CARLISLE - One of the cathedrals of wiffleball will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Built late in the summer of 2006, Migley Field has played hosted to many memorable games and moments over the years. The ballpark and surrounding neighborhood's unparalleled atmosphere has elevated the field into one of the true landmark destinations of the sport.
The New Carlisle Newts have unveiled a logo to commemorate the milestone, and team officials continue to finalize plans for the summer-long celebration which will culminate with a huge birthday party during the Hometown Cup Finals at the end of July.
Included in the "Party of the Decade" will be special banners and signage depicting the team and park's history. The team also plans to wear throwback jerseys at some point during the 2016 ORWBL season. Details on the throwback jerseys will be announced once the league office releases the regular season schedule.
The official 10th birthday party will be Sunday, July 31 at 1:20pm. It will be a joint effort between the Newts and Hometown Days. It will attempt to surpass the attendance record of last year's Hometown Cup Finals and match the incredible atmosphere of the 2015 event.
Additionally, the ballpark will be undergoing another series of renovations. The playing surface and dimensions will be the most dramatic changes. More detailed plans will be released on ncnewts.com at a later date.
