Newts spring into first place

NEW CARLISLE - Heading into Sunday's action, the Newts were somehow sitting atop the National League East with a 4-5 record. After the series, New Carlisle (7-5) opened up a 2 game lead on the Cabo Yabos (5-7) at the season's midway point, with a sweep of the Great Lakes Godfathers: 22-5, 25-17, and 15-8.

The offense finally came alive for New Carlisle, which had scored a league-low 23 runs in the first nine games of the year. A big part of the increase in production was the return of 2015 ORWBL MVP Noah Shail, who hit .737 in his season debut.

The game was played at Parts Unknown, former home of Cult West.
