NEW CARLISLE - Coming into Sunday's Crosstown Classic, the Pterodactyls had won nine straight games and were within striking distance of first place in the ORWBL standings. Their crosstown rival Newts had lost four of their last six and were tumbling down the rankings.
Despite the current trends of the season, New Carlisle brought a 17-game winning streak against Bourissa Hills into the series and extended it to 20 with a three-game sweep, 29-9, 17-14, 11-7.
The Bray Street Bombers lit up The Palace in game one with an offensive explosion rarely seen in this up-and-down 2015 campaign.
The 'Dactyls best chance came in the series finale, as the Newts again played with four players. A tight game throughout, New Carlisle blew a five-run lead at the outset and trailed 6-5. However, the Newts battled back in the late innings and eventually held on for the sweep.
