NEW CARLISLE - Shaking off a little rust from the offseason, Emery's Army (1-1) got the bats going in their second game of the season with an 18-11 victory over the Newts (4-1) at Migley Field.
After minimizing the damage done by the Rolling Prairie lineup in the first game of the series, the Newts defense and pitching was suspect in game two. Chayse Davis (1-1) took the loss, leaving the game after three innings of work.
Down 7-1 in the bottom of the third, the Newts cut the deficit in half to 7-4 with three consecutive solo shots. Garrett Curless entered the game in relief of Davis and gave up an eight spot in the fourth.
Rolling Prairie's Jake Lawrence went 4 for 7 with 4 home runs and 8 RBI. Former Newts star Matt Serge collected five hits of his own, driving in five runs.
New Carlisle actually out-homered Emery's Army with 10 long balls. Noah Shail continued his hot start to 2015 with another three homers.
