Newts crank out 20 hits in victory
SPICER LAKE - The New Carlisle Newts (2-0) pounded out 20 hits and 12 home runs in a 17-9 win over the Spicer Lake Soggy Bottom Boys (0-2) in the second game of a three-game set on Sunday afternoon.
Garrett Curless (2-0) picked up his second win of the season, despite allowing seven runs in four innings of work. Chayse Davis worked the final two innings and picked up the six-out save.
Curless also led the Newts offensively, homering four times in a 5 for 7 effort at the plate. He drove in seven runs.
Every Newts player had a multi-hit game and five of the six batters in the lineup homered for New Carlisle. Dewey Thompson hit his first career home run in the top of the sixth inning. All-time ORWBL career home run leader Koby Keck also homered in the sixth, his first of the 2015 season.
Noah Shail continued his early season success at the plate, going 5 for 7 with 3 home runs.
