Curless strikes out five in opener

SPICER LAKE - The New Carlisle Newts (1-0) opened up their 2015 campaign with an 11-3 victory over the Spicer Lake Soggy Bottom Boys (0-1) at Dapper Dan Field.

Garrett Curless (1-0) pitched a complete game gem, striking out five batters in six innings of work. Curless allowed three runs on six hits.

At the plate, Noah Shail went 4 for 5 to power the Newts offense. Shail hit two home runs and led the Newts with 4 RBI.

Curless and Sean Touhey also homered twice. Chayse Davis hit a dinger in his first at-bat, his only hit of the game.

Rookie Dewey Thompson make his debut, going 1 for 5 at the plate. However, Thompson was stellar defensively, commanding the Newts outfield in center.

New Carlisle took control early with two runs in the top of the first. Curless led off the season with a solo home run. The Newts scored in every inning en route to the victory.

The 2015 season has been dubbed the "Quest for The Emanski" as New Carlisle eyes back-to-back-to-back ORWBL Championships.
